Buddha Purnima commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha and is celebrated worldwide during the month of Vaishakha on the Full Moon. Lord Buddha was a philosopher, a great spiritual teacher, a master, and a guide who founded the religion of Buddhism, which has a growing number of followers around the world.

It is believed that Lord Buddha is the ninth avatar of Lord Vishnu, although this perspective is not widely accepted in South India.

To celebrate Vaishakha Purnima at home, you can do a few simple things:

  • On Vaishakh Purnima, wake up before sunrise and clean your house.
  • Add Ganga water to your bathing water.
  • Worship Lord Vishnu in your home temple and light a lamp in front of his idol.
  • It's important to help those in need. During this lockdown, many people are hungry, so feed the animals on the street.
  • Make a Swastika with Roli, turmeric, or Kumkum on your front door and sprinkle Ganga water there.
  • After your puja, feed the poor and donate clothes to them.
  • If you have a caged bird at home, set it free to fly; this will bring you good karma.
  • The full moon is special, so offer water to the moon in the evening.
