Papmochani Ekadasi is the final and one of the most significant Ekadashis, occurring during the Chaitra month (April-May) in the Krishna Paksha, or waning Moon phase, according to the North Indian calendar, and in the Phalgun month (March-April) according to the South Indian calendar. The term 'Papmochani' is derived from 'Paap,' meaning 'sin' or 'misgivings,' and 'mochani,' meaning 'remover'; thus, it refers to the one who removes misdeeds committed knowingly or unknowingly. This Ekadasi falls between Holi and Chaitra Navratri.

Donations to those in need on Papmochani Ekadasi are considered auspicious and are believed to purify the soul of the giver.
