What is Vaishakh Amavasya?

Vaishakha Amavasya is a day in the Hindu month of Vaishakh when there is no moon. It is considered an unlucky day, and people fast and do special rituals to honor their ancestors. In 2025, Vaishakha Amavasya will be on Saturday, 27th April.

What to donate:

  • Food: Give food to Brahmins and those who are less fortunate.
  • Money: Donate money to trusted charities for temple building.
  • Cow: It's good to donate a cow to Brahmins on this day. If you can't donate a cow, you can also feed one.

Astrology says that if someone has Pitra dosha in their horoscope, doing the rituals on Falgun Amavasya can help remove this dosha.

The Importance of Shani Amavasya

In the important month of Vaishakh, giving to charity on Vaishakh Amavasya is very meaningful.

  • Sharing food and water with those in need on this special day is believed to bring the same rewards as going on pilgrimages, pleasing God, and helping our ancestors. Donations made with good intentions are thought to bring blessings now and in the future.
  • In addition to giving food and water, helping to set up water stations and handing out pitchers of water shows kindness and care for others. This way of giving also includes providing items like shoes and umbrellas, as well as helping shelters for cows. This creates a sense of community and compassion, making society kinder and more caring.
