Amavasya, also called No Moon Day or New Moon Day, is an important day in the Hindu Calendar. It is one of the 30 phases of the moon in a lunar month, and on this day, the moon is not visible. Amavasya happens once a month, making a total of 12 no moon days in a year. It also signals the start of Shukla Paksha, or the bright part of the lunar month.
Because it is the darkest day of the month, Amavasya is seen as a powerful time. Many important rituals and traditions are celebrated on this day by people all over India.
